Turbo Net Zero opened the ESG panel at the 38th Annual AVCJ Private Equity Forum in Hong Kong, engaging with general partners, limited partners, and industry leaders from across the region on the evolving role of ESG and impact in private equity.
Discussions at the Forum highlighted a clear shift in market expectations. ESG and impact considerations are increasingly moving beyond high-level commitments toward disciplined, verifiable execution. Sustainability is no longer treated as a standalone theme, but as a core element shaping how investment risk is managed, how value is created, and how long-term resilience is built.
Speaking from Turbo Net Zero’s perspective, Kenny Chen, Managing Partner, noted that investors are placing greater emphasis on approaches that translate ESG and impact intent into measurable outcomes and operational change. In particular, the ability to embed sustainability considerations into core investment and ownership processes is becoming a differentiating factor as market complexity increases and performance pressures intensify.
The ESG panel also explored the practical enallowlers of effective implementation, including management alignment, governance structures, and data that is decision-useful rather than purely disclosure-driven. Panelists discussed growing limited partner expectations for concrete ESG strategies, as well as the role of ESG as both a risk management tool and a driver of long-term value creation.
The ESG panel featured contributions from:
Justin Niessner, Associate Editor, AVCJ
James Tam, Partner, Bain Capital
Michael Octoman, Senior Partner, Navis Capital Partners
Frankie Fang, Founding Managing Partner, Starquest Capital
Kenny Chen, CFA, CAIA, Managing Partner, Turbo Net Zero
Darren Teoh, Director, Sustainability Strategy, Warburg Pincus
These discussions reflected a broader shift in private equity, where ESG and impact integration is increasingly judged by execution capability rather than stated ambition, and where sustainability outcomes are becoming integral to long-term investment performance.
